Meeting Notes- Planning Meeting
Brittany welcomed everyone to SU-PSEA. We had a raffle to start the meeting. She then introduced Scott Penner, the president of the PSEA Southern region which spans 9 counties. He teaches sixth grade social studies. He came to form a connection with our group. He talked about working with PSEA after college and how valuable it is to form friendships with other members. He talked a little bit about the politics behind PSEA too. Kristin asked him how being a PSEA member benefits him in the classroom. He talked about the support he would get from the union if the need were to arise and how he uses the financial benefits to save money.
He explained how the union lobbies to protect our profession. He encourages us to build a network of friends. As educators it is okay if we make mistakes if we own up to them and learn from them.
We are having a supply drive for our Southern Region Conference. Contributing 5 items counts as one community service. Planning for next semester:
Dr. Gibbon will be our speaker next week, November 21st. We welcomed everyone back.

We are having a supply drive for our Southern Region Conference. Contributing 5 items counts as one community service. Planning for next semester:
- We need to come up with more ways to recruit members.
- Our schedule for next semester is not finalized yet.
- Some ideas we have for the social meetings include an Easter party, a movie night, group dinner, and getting Rita’s.
- Suggestions for Professional Development include how to have effective interviews, parent teacher conference, gifted students, incorporating music into the classroom, and having the Taylor family talk about grieving.
- We think we might sell chocolates and have an Arooga’s meal (could combine as a social event) for our fundraisers.
- For Community Service we want to look into having a Kid’s/Family Night and having a supply drive.
- Political Action ideas include passing out fliers, having a speaker come to a meeting, having a table with a laptop in the CUB to send letters to legislators, and meeting with legislators in Harrisburg.
- For apparel we are going to keep the same design. Brittany will look into the price of a long sleeve shirt or hoodie.
Dr. Gibbon will be our speaker next week, November 21st. We welcomed everyone back.
