SU-PSEA General Meeting
Brittany called the meeting to order, Becky seconded it. Brittany then went through the schedule for the meeting.
Maddie gave the treasurer’s report. We have a balance of $2,269.83
We then went through our old business. Brittany thanked everyone who came to hear Dr. Bateman’s session last week. Emilee talked about a meeting she had with the Southern Region executive board for the conference happening on February 11th. She also mentioned the chapter’s executive meeting held to make plans for the conference, as well.
Kristin then discussed the requirements to be considered an official member of the club. These requirements determine who gets a certificate of membership at the end of the semester. The requirements are to attend at least 4 meetings/professional development sessions, contribute to at least one fundraiser, participate in at least one community service activity, and become a PSEA Member through purchasing liability insurance.
Shelby led us in an ice breaker game to get to know one another better. We tossed a ball around that had questions written on it. Wherever our right thumb landed is the question we had to answer. We answered questions that are related to the field of education.
Becky discussed our options for community service. We are going to have a school supply drive and make cards for sick children. We also decided to volunteer at Kings Kettle. There was a lot of interest to volunteer at the Fall Festival held at G-Blues, but not all of members have their clearances.
Emilee pulled a raffle ticket. The member with the winning ticket received a prize.
Emilee discussed our options for political action. We decided to have a political meeting where people can sign up to vote and learn about the importance of voting/being involved.
Brittany discussed our options for a fundraiser. We decided to do baseball cards.
Emilee pulled a second raffle ticket. The member with the winning ticket received a prize.
Brittany announced that we are having a T-Shirt sale. We displayed the shirt design, and passed around a sign-up sheet for those interested in purchasing the apparel.
Becky led us in closing game where members had to decipher a well-known phrase. This relates to our teaching someday. What we say may make sense to us as a teacher, but it might need phrased differently for a student to understand our instructions.
Kristin summarized the decisions we made at this meeting. This included deciding to volunteer at Kings Kettle, holding a political meeting, and using baseball cards as our fundraiser.
We thanked everyone for coming, and encouraged them to come to our next meeting October 3rd, 2016 at 7pm in Shippen Hall, room 224.
